Welcome to the Mountain Dulcimer website.

Here in this website you will find resources about Appalachian music, an old music style of the people of the Appalachian region. The Appalachian region covers the states of New York, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.  This traditional music is very old and has been followed by generation after generation of families.

Appalachian music is a mixture of traditional European and African music, which consists of various types of instruments including the guitar, fiddle, banjo, dulcimer, autoharp and mandolin. Appalachian music has evolved over the years and lots of music festivals are held to commemorate and promote Appalachian music. Some of them are American folk music festivals, Tradition music festival celebrations, and Old time fiddler’s festivals. 

The history of the Appalachian music is provided in detail in our website. We encourage you to read through it and learn and practice it. As our forefathers have passed on this music to us, it is our duty to learn and practice it and pass it on to the next generations. There are five sub categories in this website, which are as follows – Appalachia, Hammered Dulcimer, Lee Rowe, Mountain Dulcimer and Zither.

The category – Appalachia provides a detailed insight in to the history and the present state of affairs of Appalachian music. The second category – Hammered Dulcimer gives an in-depth understanding of the instrument – Hammered dulcimer, which is an instrument mainly used in making Appalachian music. The third category – Lee Rowe provides in detail a biography about the famous Appalachian musician, Lee Rowe. The fourth category – mountain dulcimer provides a detailed view about another instrument used as part of the Appalachian music namely, the Mountain Dulcimer. The fifth category – Zither gives an exhaustive outline about zither, another instrument also used in Appalachian music.
